The List : WINTER

Wet weather and dry humor.

While making our way to one of our favorite West Hollywood Design District spots, Gracias Madre, we couldn’t help but notice the groovy digs that had just opened right next door. Since then, Verve Coffee Roasters has become our go-to coffee stop whenever we’re in WeHo. We love the clean, modern interior designed by Commune Design. And the patio is the perfect place to sip Juice Served Here‘s fresh-flavored juice flight.

With temperatures dropping and rain in the forecast, we see no need to waste valuable time on our hair when a hat could just as easily get the job done. L.A. based designer Janessa Leone‘s hats are made by hand and we love that they are designed to take on their owner’s personality. Not only do they look fashionable, but they also hide a multitude of hair sins. 😉

Peggy Guggenheim: Art AddictFilmmaker Lisa Immordino Vreeland has created a portrait of enigmatic art patron and heiress Peggy Guggenheim, who carved out a niche for herself in the art world that has yet to be rivaled. Vreeland (granddaughter-in-law to legend Diana Vreeland) and her producers are doing screenings and Q&As around the globe, sometimes joined by curators and commentators featured in the film. We highly advise that you find your way to one of them to see Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict (trailer). Peggy launched the careers of many of the world’s most famous contemporary artists during her inspiring, unapologetic life.

We discovered Santa Monica Yacht Club on a cold and rainy night and as soon as we stepped in we felt right at home. We loved the lobster and burrata toast, the crab cakes, the miso glazed eggplant and the amber ale marinated skirt steak not to mention the peach cobbler. SMYC Chef Andrew Kirschner, also of nearby Tar and Roses fame, stopped by to say hi and he along with everyone else at the restaurant helped make us forget how wet it was outside.

Heath Ceramics It’s our favorite weekend of the year at Heath Ceramics — their Open Studio and Sale. We hold out for this 20% off sale all year long and usually pick out many a holiday gift, not to mention a little something (or two) for ourselves. If you find yourself anywhere remotely close to the Bay Area, don’t miss Heath’s Sausalito Studio Tour. Or check out their San Francisco or Los Angeles outposts so you can feel the weightiness of Heath pottery and admire their earthy glazes in person. If you’re not even freeway close, you can still get a not too shabby 15% off your online purchases.
