The List : AUGUST

We’re savoring every last minute of summer ….

S W I M

They come in many a color, fit like a glove and no one can accuse them of being boring. Plus kiini bikinis are hand-crocheted, so no two are ever exactly alike. The only problem with these otherwise perfect bathing suits is that they flew off the shelves so quickly that they now are nearly impossible to get your hands on. See if you can beat the odds and score yourself one of these sweet little numbers.

The Golden State

Our friend Stephanie Stuart recently moved her shop The Golden State from groovy Rose Avenue to an even more cutting edge Venice locale right next door to Superba Food + Bread on Lincoln. She still features everything California from furniture to books to candles to surfwear in her laid-back but very hip shop. You just may want to stay and hang out here all day.

Spheres of HopeYou’ve seen their work on L.A. lifeguard stations, NYC taxis and blimps, and now the Massey brothers’ latest Portraits of Hope project is set to take over the lake at Downtown L.A.’s MacArthur Park in late-August. Spheres of Hope will feature around 3,000 floating balls hand painted by children, hospital patients and other Los Angeles community groups. See the installation while it lasts, because one month after opening, the inflatable balls will be donated to add cheer to social service organizations across the country.

CassiaSanta Monica’s new hotspot Cassia has a great vibe, is jammed-packed and has the food cred to make a visit here a must. Dynamic duo Josh Loeb and Zoe Nathan paired up with Spice Table’s Bryant Ng to create yet another foodie sensation and our Canyon friends Montalba Architects created the relaxed but elegant design. Make a reservation or just grab a banquette table by the bar. We like to order the (messy) Vietnamese Prawns and add a Green Papaya Salad for good measure. To top things off,  Esters Wine Shop & Bar, Loeb and Nathan’s (along with Kathryn and Tug Coker’s) latest venture just opened right next door. So, pick out your favorite bottle at Esters, drink it there, take it home or enjoy it with dinner at Cassia.

Pearl and Leather Bracelet

Nothing makes us feel more summery than pearl on leather jewelry. We’ve tracked down pieces in small jewelry boutiques everywhere from Istria to St. Barth, but you can simply call Gems St. Barth +590 590 27 50 40 or order yours on Etsy at Moana Tahitian Pearls or Tresors de St. Barth anytime you need a dose of sunshine.
